Matt Gibson Architecture tried to bring a new soul into the existing site which had a grand double front in Victorian style. The Kooyong House in Melbourne, Australia found the new soul successfully with the design from Matt Gibson Architecture. Previous addition in the building was removed and it was followed with the next step for separating the new works to an existing building rear for showing combination between old and new objects.
The links in ground level can be found via the garage. There is also a bridge for circulation which was extending off the hallway which is the old part in the house and it played as the main axis between the old and new part of the house. The old spatial logic in the house has changed since now the ground level was made into more informal space with facilities for children upstairs. Timber cladding brought warmth as well as sensuous feel in the house with L shape. Glass prisms which can be opened provide the support for temperature regulator. The rear building has a more dramatic look with timber façade wall combine floor.
This house becomes opposition of other dwellings in the street which have a Victorian style. This house also becomes the presentation of urban oasis which can embrace the environment.
